In the article Harlem Shake Wedding Dance, I explained the Harlem Shake and described how the dance craze is featuring in Weddings right across the World.
Wedding Harlem Shake
The dance accompanies a new tune from an American DJ called Baauer and typically the Harlem Shake will start with one person in a group doing a random move repeatedly. At this point the others in the room are going about their usual business and ignoring the person gyrating in a strange manner but then, as the chorus starts and the bass kicks in, all of the others in the room spontaneously react and start doing their own random dance moves in time to the music.
We’ve chosen a couple of our favourite Wedding Harlem Shake videos:
Couple the unusual moves with equally weird items of clothing and you have the Harlem Shake! Some people will wear a dustbin on their head, some will carry a flag, others will parade around in their underwear and some people dance on tables. The idea is to be momentarily random.
The beauty of the Shake is that there are no set dance moves, there are no routines to learn and anybody can join in. There is no right or wrong way to do the Harlem Shake, it’s purely down to interpretation and having fun.
We’re regularly asked to play the Harlem Shake at weddings and parties and with people filming their antics and uploading to Youtube, this is the latest dance craze to spread around the World.
