Hiya I’m Simon Ross and here’s a little bit about me . . .
I’ve been a DJ for almost 20 years but I originally qualified from University with a degree as a PE teacher. Playing songs for a living seemed like much more fun so apart from a short time teaching in London, I’ve chosen to stay away from the classroom.
Working in radio I’ve moved about a bit: Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Oxford, Cardiff, Newcastle, Bristol… the list goes on! Along the way I’ve hosted numerous events (80′s Rewind Festival, Party in the Park) but the biggest one was in 2003, the GWR FM Free Music Concert at the International Balloon Fiesta where there was a massive crowd of 110,000 people! It was an amazing buzz to be stood onstage in front of that many people – definitely a career highlight.
I’ve found myself in some unusual situations over the years like the time I ended-up having a chat with Peter Andre stood at the urinal in the Gents toilets! Or playing pool and eating pizza with Girls Aloud but I love my job and I know I’m very lucky.
I don’t want to drop too many names but I must admit, interviewing Cheryl Cole, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland and Victoria Beckham is better than teaching rugby to a class of 14 year olds!
As a DJ I’ve been playing songs at events for as long as I’ve been on the radio in fact, even when I was a kid, I was doing parties for the neighbours and playing with my disco lights.
