Last weekend I hosted a Bagshot mobile disco, it was a 21st Birthday party in a marquee within the grounds of The Crown Estate. The countryside in this part of Surrey is stunning and Bagshot Park has a relaxed feeling of being ‘away from it all’.
Making my way along the driveway I noticed a number of CCTV cameras and must admit, I felt a bit intimidated cos I knew I was being watched! Anyway, I thought no more of it, got to the marquee and set up for the party.
We had a great time and the guests made a tremendous effort with the fancy dress theme. One guy spent the whole night walking around on stilts and another arrived bare-chested with just gold spray paint on his top half!
At the end of the evening I packed my mobile disco equipment away and made my way back along the driveway towards the front gates. Again I was aware of the security cameras watching my every move and I instantly felt paranoid even though I hadn’t done anything wrong.
It was only a couple of days later when I told a friend about the experience that they said: ‘well, you do know that’s where Prince Edward lives don’t you?!’.
It turns out that Bagshot Park is indeed the official residence of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. I had no idea I was in the presence of Royalty (!) no wonder they had so many security cameras!
Obviously this particular Bagshot mobile disco wasn’t anything to do with the Royal Family and to be honest, even if they had been there, I probably would have just assumed it was somebody in fancy dress!
